Estrofem is a synthetic 17-estradiol, identical to the endogenous estradiol produced by a woman`s ovaries. It eliminates the symptoms of estrogen deficiency and prevents a decrease in bone mass and bone mineral density in postmenopausal women, incl. after oophorectomy.
The effect of estrogens on bone mineral density depends on the dose and duration of treatment. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) with estrogen, given primarily to healthy women or patients with low bone mineral density and osteoporosis, may help reduce the risk of fractures, including the hip and spine.
The use of the drug Estrofem 1 mg and 2 mg for 2 years increases the mineral density by 4.3-5.3% in the lumbar spine; by 4.0-3.9% - in the neck of the thigh; by 3.3-3.2% - in the trochanter of the femur. An increase in bone mineral density in the lumbar spine when using the drug Estrofem within 2 years occurs in 61-68% of women.
